The Food Innovation Team (FIT) was created as a subcommittee of the Food Safety and Defense Task Force to help answer questions and assist Food Business Owners (FBOs) in navigating Minnesota’s food licensing and regulatory environment. Most FBOs in Minnesota receive a license to do business from the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA), Minnesota Department of Health, or their delegated agencies with relative ease. However, some FBOs may encounter challenges in licensing, or in situations of exclusion or exemption from licensing, due to a number of factors that may or may not be easily resolved without assistance.  When this happens, FBOs are encouraged to work with FIT to help answer their questions and create a path forward for their food regulatory compliance needs. FIT does not take the place of working directly with regulatory agencies. Rather, FIT helps FBOs who face regulatory challenges.
